Low Iron Glass and Your Shower

Low Iron Glass and Your Shower

One of the huge changes in architectural glass over the last decade is the low-iron glass options that are available. The glass options keep getting better and it can really make a difference in the appearance when used in the right setting.

What is low-iron glass?

Low-iron glass, as the name implies, has very little iron in their composition and are primarily made of low-iron silica sand. It contains 0.01% of ferric oxide, leaving much more space for light to pass through. So, they are ideal for spaces requiring more visible light and clarity such as bathroom spaces with light color schemes.

Low-Iron Glass is Great For Light Color Showers

If you spent the money to create a fantastic-looking custom shower and you used lighter tile, it is worth the expense to upgrade to low iron glass. If we hold Low-iron glass and regular clear glass in front of your tile, you will see such a dramatic difference and you would notice the green hue of regular clear glass immediately. When we are doing estimates, we debate showing the clear glass to the client because once the difference is seen, it can't be unseen. If you have darker tile or dark stonework, conversely, you won't get the benefit of the ultra-clear low iron glass.

This is a great example of Ultra-Clear low-iron glass. The bright white tile would make the regular clear glass appear to have a green hue (because it does, it just not noticeable sometimes). Shower glass by Mr. Showers.

The business cards are both pinned behind glass, but you can barley notice the Starfire Glass on the left.
